Adoptions

We are very happy that you are considering adoption one of our dogs or cats.

Please read the adoption information carefully.

  • You must be 21 years old or over.

  • Deciding to adopt a rescue animal is an important decision and it is a commitment for the rest of your life, therefore make sure that this has been discussed with the whole family.

  • Life in a shelter can be very different to a life in a home. The behavior of a dog or cat can be different than the description provided by a shelter. In a new environment a rescue pet might have unexpected behaviour problems such as separation anxiety, aggression, barking, scratching, marking and other issues. It can take time, patience, and effort to settle a rescue pet into your home and build a bond, so you must be patient.

  • If you live in rented accommodation, be sure to check with your landlord that you can have a pet at the property beforehand.

  • Dogs need plenty of space inside and out. Ensure you have enough room in your living arrangements before adopting a pet.

  • Dogs require daily walks and interaction: be sure you have enough time to dedicate to their behavioural, social, and physical needs.

  • Cats will also need enough space in your schedule. Cats require interaction and play/cuddle time: be sure you have enough time to dedicate to their behavioral, social, and physical needs.

  • If you have other pets: your rescue pet might not immediately get along with your other pets. Socializing them takes time, patience and a peaceful household.

Step 1

Apply

Once you have found a pet you would like to adopt, you will need to complete an application form which will include information about you, your family and your living circ*mstances, this will help us to assess if the cat will match you. Filling out the form does not obligate you to anything yet.

IN CASE YOU HAVE NOT RECEIVED AN EMAIL FROM US, PLEASE CHECK YOUR SPAM FOLDER.

Step 2

Call With Us

After we receive your online form, we contact you to organize a video conversation. We ask you to have some patience, since we need to discuss your application with a shelter, which could take some time. Normally you should hear from us within 2 weeks.

Step 3

Questions to the Shelter

If everything looks good after the video conversation, you will have an opportunity to ask your questions to the shelter. You will get a chance to find out more about the character of the pet, what kind of issues you can anticipate once the pet is at your home, and other important questions can be addressed.

Step 4

Home Check

Instead of a physical home check, you willbe asked to send us a video of your home with detailed explanations of your home environment, where the pet would stay etc. This is a great opportunity for us to get to know a little more about you, how you live, and how you are planning to take care of the pet. In the video, you may for example introduce yourself and your family members or other pets, tell us where the pet would sleep.

This is a very important part of the adoption procedure for us. We want to ensure that the pet is joining a home and environment that meets its needs with a family who are going to provide care and education.

Step 5

Prepare for Transport

We will now begin booking your pet’s transport and will ensure that all paperwork is in place to allow him/her to travel. We will be in touch as soon as we have details about your pet’s rehoming date, journey details and approximate times. It may take around one month until your pet will travel to you.

We will ensure that your pet receives all the necessary vaccinations, veterinary checks and paperwork needed to travel. If you would like to have additional health tests (such as a blood test), please let us know in advance. This can be arranged at an additional cost.

If you are the selected adopter, we require that you review and sign the adoption contract and send it to your contactperson and torescuedogsandcatsnl@gmail.com.

ADOPTION FEE: The total adoption amount depends on the transportation and the shelter costs.

Cats: from €260 to €280

Dogs: from €360to €420

This amount partiallycovers the cost of finding them their new home and supporting the partner shelter providing them care until they are able to travel. This partially includes the costs of sterilization/ castration, vaccinations, EU passport, micro-chipping and any further veterinary treatment needed. It also covers the cost of onward transportation, and all necessary admin required to prepare them for travel.
