The first half of the Triple-A season officially ended yesterday, and what a half it was. We're halfway home to something our organization hasn't accomplished since 2017 –leading Minor League Baseball in overall attendance (with a shot at No. 1 average attendance, too!).So, how'd we get here?Fifty-five full-time employees + dozens of seasonal and game day interns/employees buying into what we're all about... providing fun, affordable entertainment and exceptional customer service to every fan, every single day. We've set a record for Mini Plans sold, corporate sales figures have reached new heights, our socials and website traffic are popping off, and year 2 of SWING is on the horizon when the season concludes. The first half featured the flamethrowing Paul Skenes, who was electric in seven starts for Indy before quickly asserting himself as one of the best pitchers in the big leagues. High-level promotions included an appearance by Bluey and Bingo, Margaritaville Night, Negro Leagues Night, two Prospects Weekends and more. The Vic was Celeb Central with Fever stars Caitlin Clark and Lexie Hull, the World's Greatest Competitive Eater Joey Chestnut, former Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne, current Colts Kenny Moore II and Samson Ebukam, former NBA No. 1 overall pick Greg Oden, Livvy Dunne, and 2024 Paris Olympic qualifiers from USA Swimming, Aaron and Alex Shackell, all making appearances. The first home game of the second half is on the Fourth of July, the biggest game every summer. The season wraps with Razor Shines Weekend and a slew of promotions including Harry Potter Weekend, Marvel Weekend, another Bluey and Bingo Weekend and more that fall between.See you at the ballpark. 👊

“So, what do you do during the baseball offseason?”I prepare for the next baseball season, and I coach wrestling. Here goes…Four seasons have come and gone. One week has already passed since Bishop Chatard’s Jack Davis qualified for the IHSAA State Finals at 132 pounds, making him one of only 16 wrestlers in the entire state to qualify at that weight class. He’s only a sophom*ore and bigger things are ahead for him and our program. For perspective on Jack’s accomplishment, the state of Iowa — a state that prides itself on wrestling — has three classes in which 24 wrestlers qualify for state… 72 state qualifiers is more than Indiana has as semi-state qualifiers (64) in a one-class system. Incredibly proud of Jack to say the least. Why? See below.I’m not going to sugarcoat it. Wrestling isn’t easy. I’ve lived it, breathed it, given up on it and come back to it. It’s the rare sport that benefits you for every other sport. It’s the only sport where running before sunrise or at the end of practice in a room that likens to a sauna ensures you can compete at a high level for 6+ consecutive minutes. It’s the only sport where kids sacrifice lunch at school and get worn out by their non-wrestling classmates because of it or stay in the basem*nt at home to miss dinner, all to fill an opening in the varsity lineup. It’s one of few sports where you’re alone in the spotlight — you and an opponent — and the outcome is squarely in your hands. Sound enticing? It’s a niche sport for a reason. At Bishop Chatard, we have a visionary and passionate head coach, Nate Spangle. We’ve got technician assistants Zach Melloh, William Amberger, Alexander Fauber, and the Cali kid Armando Sanchez who’s always down for a scrap. We train hard and compete, but we make sure it’s fun (even if you have to convince the kids on occasion that wrestling is, in fact, fun). What you learn from wrestling and apply later in life can’t be matched. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. The semi-state draw isn’t fair? Life isn’t fair. Keep your head up, lean on your support system when you need it, and move forward.Am I excited for baseball to return? Without question. Am I counting the days until wrestling season officially begins again and we’ve got teammates joining Jack at the IHSAA State Finals next February? Absolutely.

I am a husband, son, brother, stepbrother, grandson, cousin, uncle, coworker and friend.I am the director of communications for the Indianapolis Indians and assistant wrestling coach at Bishop Chatard High School. In May, I’ll add another title — dad. It will become my most important role, one with sleepless nights and challenges but also moments that will put a walk-off winner to shame. My wife and I can’t wait. What’s your favorite part about being a dad?

This year’s 18th annual Indianapolis Indians charity golf outing was a hit. For the first time in a long time, we had four members from the clubhouse participate in the fun — one coach, two athletic trainers and the team’s go-to catcher — and all were auctioned off as bonus players to foursomes. We’re still tallying the final numbers, but it sounds like we had a record year for funds raised. Kudos to Rylee Horn on helping coordinate her first charity golf outing, Joel Zawacki, Christina Toler and Kylie Kinder from sponsorship/partnership activation and our marketing team to help spread the message! For those who have played in a charity outing before, what have you liked most about outings you’ve played in? Any auction items, player involvement, experiences, etc. that you had that made the day worthwhile? Would love your insight to help take our outing to another level in 2023!

For a second time this season, I had a chance to join WISH-TV and Phil Sanchez for his "unPHILtered' segment. We talked about the great work that Indianapolis Indians Charities is doing in the community, specifically in partnership with Indy RBI and Indy PAL, two urban baseball and softball leagues in the Circle City.Joel Zawacki has cultivated and maintained a strong relationship with executives at Indy RBI, and Jo Garcia did a ton of legwork to get IIC -- the club's first official nonprofit -- to where it is today.

I am humbled and honored to be recognized as one of 100 finalists for the 2022 Indy's Best and Brightest Awards created by Junior Achievement of Central Indiana. The last five years spent working for the Indianapolis Indians have been some of the best years of my life, and many of my colleagues have become mentors, family and friends. While Iowa will always have my heart, Indy has truly become my home away from home. My supervisors have also allowed me to chase a passion during each of the last two offseasons, which I've spent as an assistant wrestling coach with Bishop Chatard High School and Christ the King/St. Pius cadets. I want to grow the sport of wrestling in Indiana and leave a positive impact on the next generation of Hoosiers, and the Indians have graciously given me that opportunity. It goes without saying, but I work with incredible people. There are so many people to thank who have helped get me to this point, starting with my parents, brothers and wife. Since first interning in the minor leagues in 2013, I've been fortunate to work under the likes of Ryan Kiel, Ted Tornow, Chad Seely, Andrew Daugherty, Charlie Henry and Joel Zawacki, who all have had my back more times than I can count.I can't wait to see what the next five years hold.#juniorachievement #bestandbrightest
