Derry Girl turned superstar Nicola Coughlan admitted she sometimes misses ‘normality’. Since her breakthrough in the hit Channel 4 sitcom, the 31-year-old has reached new heights of fame after landing a leading role in the Netflix hit Bridgerton. And she’s just been announced for a role in the upcoming big screen adaptation of Enid Blyton’s The Faraway Tree, alongside Hollywood stars Claire Foy and Andrew Garfield and Baby Reindeer’s Jessica Gunning. On Thursday night, she turned out with co-star Luke Newton for the Bridgerton Season Three, Part Two premiere at the Lighthouse Cinema in Dublin. Asked about her rise to stardom, Nicola admitted she sometimes misses ‘normality’ and being able to go to the shops or the pub without being recognised. She said: ‘Sometimes you just want to go to the pub or buy milk. But, generally, people are so nice and so friendly and it’s beautiful.’ But she noted she would often get approached by strangers before she was famous, saying: ‘I think I have that kind of face anyway. ‘Before I was on TV, I was very much the person that people would ask for directions or sit next to on the bus. So I think that would be a lifelong thing whether I was on TV or not.’ But she’s not averse to strutting her style on the red carpet, particularly after the pandemic interrupted promotional duties for the earlier seasons of Bridgerton. She said: ‘I’ve loved doing this world tour because we never got to do it with this show before because seasons one and two were impacted by Covid when it came to promotion. ‘But actually getting to go around the world and meet people and be like, “Thank you so much for watching” is amazing.’ Today's top videos
