| No_Strings 2011-Oct-23 6:43 pm FYI, if you post the images directly on this site, it will automatically resize them and make thumbnails for large images. Another advantage of direct posting is you never have to worry about the external image disappearing. | |||||||||

| No_Strings 2011-Oct-23 6:55 pm No problem. We have buttons all over the place and it can be a little daunting. Welcome and good luck resolving your issue. | |||||||||

MastaMatt | MastaMatt Member 2011-Oct-23 6:58 pm Yea I'm used to the paperclip attachment icon--which ironically shows up on the topic header left side of it lol. Glad to be here--except the problem part :P

| CoxTech1 Member 2011-Oct-24 8:59 am Way too many Ethernet active/dormant events in those modem logs. Have you tried different Ethernet cables or connecting different devices to the modem to see if you still have problems? | |||||||||

MastaMatt | MastaMatt Member 2011-Oct-24 9:06 am Yes 3 ethernet cables all same results...what do u mean by different devices? I only have one computer and its direct connection..tried onboard/ 2 nic cards also--same results (even tcp/ip tweaks/windows defaults) whole nine yards. Same results in safe mode w/networking.

| CoxTech1 Member 2011-Oct-24 9:11 am You could maybe try updating the drivers on the PC but that pattern of log entries suggests a failed Ethernet connection between the modem and connected device. Do you have access to a laptop or something you could try connecting to the modem? | |||||||||

MastaMatt | MastaMatt Member 2011-Oct-24 9:16 am Well I do have a cox tech coming today (3rd trip) do they carry laptops? Yea I figured it looks like a bad connection through modem to desktop but 3 different nic's and 3 different ethernet cables and still same results makes me scratch my head--unless somehow the motherboard itself is dying..but no other problems have been occurring. Also the packet loss doesn't occur in the morning--seems to be during rush hour in the evening when everyone is coming home..

| CoxTech1 Member 2011-Oct-24 9:20 am The thing to note about Ethernet events is they have nothing to do with the Internet connection. They simply indicate a loss of connectivity between the modem and whatever device is connected. It's possible that you have an out of box defect modem. Are your two NICs in the PC onboard? If so, have you tried an add on card instead? | |||||||||

MastaMatt | MastaMatt Member 2011-Oct-24 9:23 am Yes I've tried a physical pci-e nic card and all updated drivers too

| MastaMatt to CoxTech1 Member 2011-Oct-24 9:37 am Did a reboot earlier of the modem and this pops up...not sure if its common and again perfect packets smooth sailing all morning on pingplotter so far ---cept the reboot ofcourse showing 100pct packet loss :P 2011-10-24 08:45:576-NoticeI401.0TLV-11 - unrecognized OID | |||||||||
· actions · 2011-Oct-24 9:37 am ·
| CoxTech1 Member 2011-Oct-24 9:43 am That's all pretty much normal log noise during a reboot cycle but when you start seeing lots of Ethernet link up and Ethernet link dormant events outside of the modem rebooting there is definitely a problem. | |||||||||

MastaMatt | MastaMatt Member 2011-Oct-24 9:48 am could it be possible its the node? I mean literally everything so far has been replaced in the house to the pole--hopefully I get a 3rd modem as triple proof though just incase it is another defected modem
· actions · 2011-Oct-24 9:48 am ·
| CoxTech1 Member 2011-Oct-24 9:52 am Nothing to do with the node. The Ethernet connection stops at the modem. | |||||||||

MastaMatt | MastaMatt Member 2011-Oct-24 9:58 am Ok thank you for your input--should I request a docsis 3 modem? Should It cost me anything? This 2nd modem was free to my knowledge--I'm on 25/5 plan. Not sure what the 3rd tech is bringing in regards to laptop to test on and/or another modem..

| CoxTech1 Member 2011-Oct-24 10:09 am Cox technicians carry laptops with them which allows them to access our internal network giving them access to diagnostic tools and account information but they can try connecting them to modems for troubleshooting purposes. There are many benefits to getting a 3.0 modem but that would be an upgrade the customer is responsible for purchasing if desired. If the current modem came from us and is still under warranty it would be replaced with a comparable modem. | |||||||||

MastaMatt | MastaMatt Member 2011-Oct-24 12:32 pm been monitoring it since 11:38am...so far nothing--theres also 2 techs outside so I guess they fixing stuff already cause my appointment isn't until 5-7pm.
· actions · 2011-Oct-24 12:32 pm ·
| MastaMatt to CoxTech1 Member 2011-Oct-24 3:07 pm so far not a single packet has been lost to 192.168.100.1 | |||||||||
· actions · 2011-Oct-24 3:07 pm ·
| CoxTech1 Member 2011-Oct-24 3:09 pm I would keep an eye on packet loss to that address and note any issues you see. | |||||||||
· actions · 2011-Oct-24 3:09 pm ·
MastaMatt | MastaMatt Member 2011-Oct-24 3:12 pm Been monitoring it 4 hours--theres been regular packet loss within the 6 hops to cox.net still also (usually 1 percent packet loss atm)--while 192.... goes steady with 1 packet trace back and forth with a max of 4.
· actions · 2011-Oct-24 3:12 pm ·
| CoxTech1 Member 2011-Oct-24 3:13 pm If you have any trace routes showing that it might be helpful. At first glance that doesn't sound like it may be packet loss. | |||||||||

MastaMatt | MastaMatt Member 2011-Oct-24 3:31 pm Yes both running--not a single packet has been dropped from it. *3 hour chart*
· actions · 2011-Oct-24 3:31 pm ·
| CoxTech1 Member 2011-Oct-24 3:35 pm I'll admit that makes no sense at all when compared with the modem logs you posted. | |||||||||

MastaMatt | MastaMatt Member 2011-Oct-24 3:37 pm Exactly that's why I made this thread I'm stumped lol--no router involved either..sigh if only it was that easy..
